With everything happening in the news and in Congress, it’s easy for things to fall through the cracks or off the minds of our policymakers. This is why it’s so important that we consistently communicate with our elected officials to make sure that they don’t forget about the injustice of cannabis criminalization.
Ruth Marie Bertrand, member of DE NORML I am so proud to work here at NORML and promote the efforts of the brave advocates in Delaware NORML and the countless others from around the country who are restless in their efforts. Earlier this year, Delaware became the first state to have a majority of their lower chamber vote to end prohibition and implement a regulated marketplace, but because of their legislative rules, they fell just a few votes short of the needed super-majority for passage.
Senator Carper was a politician who, for years, believed the prohibitionist rhetoric and lies which defended a status quo that resulted in millions of arrests. However, after years of pressure built by advocates like Ruth here and all of our friends in Delaware NORML, we broke through.
They will only ever hear us if we raise our voices. Because when we are talking, we are winning. Send a message to your elected Senators now.
Yours in reform,
NORML Political Director
